Day 1: Arrival Day
Guests arrive at Tocumen International Airport near Panama City. We will be treated to a traditional lunch in the city's fish market, before taking a 2-hour bus ride to a private villa in the beach community of Vista Mar, Santa Clara. On the way, we will make one stop in Coronado for guests to pick up additional snacks or items they may need. Upon arrival, guests will settle into their rooms, meet the Sisters’ Retreat Team, and enjoy a pre-arranged dinner by the beach at Boga Bar.
Day 2: Beach Day
Every day in Vista Mar our retreat will offer a morning mindfulness and yoga session with Nada Ashkar. Guests are not required to participate but are encouraged to do so. As is the case for the duration of the trip, breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served throughout the day. On this day Guests can enjoy a day at the beach walking distance from the villa, or take advantage of our private pool. Guests may also choose to take advantage of our poolside spa day add-on package to make their day even more relaxing. An evening wellness session will be offered by Timaj Garad and the night will be capped off with dinner by the beach.
Day 3: El Valle Hot Springs & Market
After morning yoga and breakfast, the group will head out on a scenic day tour to El Valle de Anton, a town situated in the valley of a dormant volcano. Here, we will visit a natural hot spring, followed by a hike and a visit to a local river and waterfall. Guests can do some souvenir shopping at El Valle's outdoor artisan and vegetable market, before heading back for dinner at Boga Bar and an evening wellness session.
Day 4: Free day - Beach or Shopping
After morning Yoga, breakfast, and a wellness session, guests can enjoy a relaxing day by the pool at our private villa, walk to the beach, or choose to explore the local town of Penonome (transportation provided). Lunch will be served on the property, and the day will end with an evening salsa lesson after dinner provided by Boga Bar.
Day 6: Friday prayers in Panama City
After breakfast, guests will have the option to attend Jummah at a local Masjid and/or have a free day. This is the only day lunch will not be provided as guest will be free to roam Panama City before meeting up for dinner at the local fish market.
Day 7: Guided Panama Canal Tour
& Local Muslim Sisters Exchange
After breakfast, the group will take a guided tour with Afro-Latino Travels to some of Panama’s most famous sites. We will visit the Miraflores Locks and Visitors Center of the Panama Canal, known to be one of the great marvels of the modern world. Here we'll learn about the Afro-Antillian laborers that built and maintained the canal from the late 1800s. Guests will then travel to Casco Viejo and La Central where they will be guided on a walking tour to learn about the colonial foundations of some of Panama’s most trendy neighborhoods. The group will then visit Panama’s AfroAntillean Museum to learn about the Afro-Caribbean; workers, families, entrepreneurs, and adventurers who arrived and built the country of Panama, followed by lunch at a local Afro-Panamanian restaurant. In the evening, the group is invited to break bread and meet with some local Muslim Sisters at Musala Al Haqq before heading to a local halal restaurant owned by a member of the Panamanian Gujarati community for dinner.
Day 8: Departure Day
Breakfast and transportation will be provided to guests flying out of Tocumen International airport.
Day 5: Day Trip to Portobelo & Isla Grande
Guests can enjoy morning yoga and breakfast before heading to Portobelo and Isla Grande. Here guests will have a chance to visit historic Panamanian sites like the Church of Black Jesus, before taking a boat tour to Monkey Island, and enjoy lunch on Isla Grande, where we will spend the afternoon on the beach. Guests will then check in to a hotel in Panama City where they will stay for the remainder of the trip, and the group will enjoy dinner in town.
